Katseye Long Beach Concert reviews
Best Madonna concert yet
I have been a long-time admirer, attending all of her live performances since her return to touring in 2001 (Drowned World Tour) .... I missed her earlier tours due to my young age. My favorite show by far, even though I have enjoyed all of her concerts. The show was noticeably focused on her unique style of theatrics, particularly during the opening sequences, yet the overall vibe felt more relaxed and organic compared to past tours. Her confidence has always been apparent, but there was an added sense of ease that resonated with me.... Undoubtedly a result of her extensive experience. The new album is a personal favorite, exploring various sub-genres of pop music that she has popularized over the years .... It has always reminded me of a contemporary "Erotica" since my initial listen. A significant portion of the setlist featured the new material, a factor I appreciate about her performances - even after numerous tours, the shows always feel fresh and different, a remarkable achievement in itself. The classics were also a highlight, including some songs I had never witnessed live before (Deeper and Deeper : impressive; Who's That Girl in an acoustic rendition: stunning; True Blue in a yukelele sing-along: delightful; the emotional rendition of Love Don't Live Here Anymore: touching; the original demo version of Burning Up: iconic; the revamped interpretations of Like A Virgin (with a solo groove on the catwalk) and Material Girl (bass-heavy), both with stripped-down instrumentals: innovative (and not previously favorites of mine) ; the intimate and fun Latin segment (La Isla Bonita and the Dress You Up medley with Into The Groove, Everybody, Lucky Star); Music with a jazz-era introduction; Holiday as the encore: true to the original .........and these are just some of the classics on the list.
Her vocals were exquisite, despite the criticisms from skeptics (I understand why some insecure individuals might perceive her as a THREAT, she possesses great strength). While she may not have a powerhouse voice, her tone is distinctive, she delivers a solid performance, and her singing is imbued with genuine emotion and warmth, particularly in the ballads.
I could continue praising endlessly. Long live the queen. Hopefully, she will return to our city for the additional US leg of this tour.
She graced us with well over 2 hours of her presence, and even with such a remarkable stage time, I wished she had included Ghosttown and Joan Of Arc from the new album in her setlist. That encapsulates the essence of the show: over 2 hours, emphasis on new songs, leaving me yearning for more, truly showcasing her exceptional talent."
